Types of call numbers in the curriculum collection

There are four different types of call numbers in use in the Curriculum Collection (CURR):

 

1. Storybooks (S) - This is the section for chapter books 

An example call number for the book The wild Robot by Peter Brown

 

S S (for story)
BRO (first three letters of author's last name)
WIL (first three letters of the title)

 

2. Easy books (E) - This is the section for elementary age reading level books

An example call number would be Big by Vashti Harrison

 

E (for Easy)
HAR (first three letters of the author's last name)
BIG (first three letters of the title)

 

3.  Non-Fiction: Dewey Classification (numerical call numbers)

An example call number would be the Eyewitness book on Religion

 

200  (for the subject of religion)
LAN (first 3 letters of author's last name)
REL  (first 3 letters of the title)

 

 

4. Graphic Novels, Comics & Manga (GN)

An example call number for the non-fiction, comic March by John Lewis

GN (for graphic novel)
328.73092 (for the subject of Social justice in the DDC)
LEW (first three letters of author's last name)
MAR (first 3 letters of the title)
v.1 (volume number of the comic, graphic novel, or manga)

 

DDC Sections at the Burman Library

Our Curriculum Collection is located on the main floor to the right of the computer stations. This collection is primarily used by education students and is secondarily used by community patrons and for leisure reading.
